I am just curious to see if anyone out there is using grids in their research. Most of the people in our lab contend that Grid computing is an overhyped technology. I am interested in the release of Apple XGrid.

I considered using grids at various points of my research but decided it is only a toy and I have no real use of it. But I do know people setting up large grids with redhat and is running network inference calculation on it.

i brought up xgrid to a prof i'm doing an internship for this summer as an idea about a database he wants to contruct, from what he was saying he wants to have pre-computed analyses ready for request by users so i figured late-night grid computing with a small computer lab on our floor might be a good way to take care of it. he hasn't said anything about it recently.

i actually have a question about bioinformatics and grid computing, are bioinformatics calculations parellelizable? they seem largely to depend on what's come before so i wouldn't think they are.

understand my background is b.s. microbiology and 5yrs network engineer, i don't really understand, yet, the statistics involved.
